Comprehensive Plan Mark Unveiled at Community Kickoff
What Difference Can 10 Years Make?
The Answer is Up to You
The City of Greer's current comprehensive plan, completed in 1999, included such objectives as revitalizing downtown, constructing a new Municipal Complex, and offering more recreational facilities for citizens. In 2008:
Greer Station is a model for downtown entertainment and commerce with nationally-
recognized fine dining establishments and businesses offering everything from professional
services to high-quality merchandise.
Greer's new City Hall is rising on East Poinsett Street. A three-story facility that will offer city
residents the opportunity to conduct the majority of their business under one roof, City Hall
will anchor the east side of Greer Station. Just a few blocks away to the west lies a new
37,000-square-foot Police and Municipal Court complex.
A beautiful City Park is taking shape beside the new City Hall. With ample green space, a
pond, and an amphitheater, it is certain to become a popular spot for picnics and concerts.
Nearby, Victor Park will offer a modern complex with a softball field, multi-purpose
gymnasium, and outdoor basketball courts. Just down the road lies Stevens Field, where
renovations will create a baseball complex ready to host the Dixie Majors State Tournament
in July.
Progress in the City of Greer isn't a coincidence. It is the direct result of planning. What will the City of Greer look like in 2019 -- when today's kindergarteners are preparing for college? Will current parks be adequate to serve the population? Will alternative methods of transportation be necessary within the city? What challenges and opportunities exist in economic development?
More importantly, what role will YOU play in developing the 2009 Comprehensive Plan?
“As we prepare for future growth and services within the City, all voices will be necessary to prepare a proper plan. We are committed to the premise that smart planning ensures smart growth,” Greer City Administrator Ed Driggers said.
Theme committees comprised of citizens will be formed to ask questions in several different areas during the remainder of the calendar year. If you would like to be considered for participation on a committee, please download and complete a Committee Member Application.
Not ready to make that commitment? Let your voice be heard through feedback to the steering committee and citizen committee by e-mailing feedback@onegreer.org or by visiting the Contact Us portion of this site.
We're all a part of one future. Come help shape "One Greer."
